Proper Storage of Inflatable Pipe Plugs: Why It Matters?

Proper Storage of Pipe Plugs

Inflatable pipe plugs are essential tools used to block the flow for maintenance or testing purposes. The Inflatable Pipe Plug provides an efficient way to seal off pipes during repairs, testing, and inspections. However, to ensure their long lifespan of the plugs and an optimal performance, proper storage is just as important as correct usage.

Why is the Proper Storage of Pipe Plug that important?

Inflatable Pipe Plugs are permanent tools used to seal the pipe. So, reusing them many times make them a cost-effective solution. For this, a proper storage of inflatable pipe plugs is crucial to maintaining their functionality, durability, and safety over time.

According to testimonials from several of end users, they succeeded to use PlugCo Pipe Plugs for more than 100 times without any degradation in their performance. This was possible thanks to the correct usage and proper storage of the plugs.

How to Properly Store Inflatable Pipe Plugs?

To maximize the lifespan of your pipe plugs, follow these storage recommendations which most of them are listed in the ISO 2230 standard:

Clean & dry the plug before storing it. After each use, it is important to thoroughly remove any dirt, debris, or residue that may have accumulated on the surface. Use a detergent and clean water to gently wash the plugs, avoiding harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could damage the rubber or fabric components.

Store the cleaned pipe plug in a clean dry place at an ambient temperature between 15°C and 25°C.

Always protect the Pipe Plug from direct sunlight as the UV rays degrade the rubber.

Keep the pipe plug away from circulating air as it can lead to premature aging of rubber materials

Ensure that pipe plug is not subjected to pressure while stored. If the pipe plugs have been vacuum-packed, make sure to release the vacuum and inflate them to restore their original shape.

Avoid long-term contact with liquid, metal and/or other rubber products during storage.

After long-term storage, the pipe plug can be cleaned with soap and water. Once cleaned, allow it to dry at room temperature.

Storage Position: Pipe plug must be stored suspended vertically or placed horizontally on a clean surface.

Following these instructions will help ensure the safe and effective use of inflatable pipe plugs for up to 10 years and over 100 uses.
